About the Scholarship

The scholarship was named after Roy R. Scott, “Scotty,” a long time technician at the Talbot Soil Conservation District where he worked for several decades. Starting his career with the Dorchester Soil Conservation District in 1955 as a federal technician, Scotty later transferred to Talbot in 1958 due to the formation of the Talbot Soil Conservation District. After serving 30 years with the Soil Conservation Service (now Natural Resources Conservation Service) he retired and began a 26 year career with the Maryland Department of Agriculture. Mostly known for engineering farm ponds and ditches, Scotty helped hundreds of landowners and farmers with drainage and erosion problems throughout his career.
